Sex and the City Bridal Shower Invitations

Sex and the City remains one of our favorite TV shows.  Of course, one of our most-viewed posts is on planning a Sex and the City shower but recently we've given a ton of comments asking for more invitations that perfectly set the tone for this type of fete.

This Martini themed bridal shower invite is ideal for a SATC shower.  Did Carrie go one episode without a Cosmo? Didn't think so.  

Go obvious with the NYC theme.  The ladies loved Manhattan and if your bride does too then celebrate it with this New York Skyline invite. 

Carrie wasn't the typical bride so skip a "typical" bridal shower (or invitation for that matter.) These chic modern cocktail party shower invites are just the trick-nothing too girly or frilly for Mrs. Big.  

Or celebrate the girls love of Manolos and Jimmy Choos with this stiletto bridal shower invite. 

Bridal Shower Theme: Sex and the City

Celebrate her big day with Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. This shower is going to be all about stilettos, martinis, and, of course, best friends.

Invitations

Set the tone for the Sex and the City bridal shower with the invites. The one to the left, a Stiletto Bridal Shower Invitation  sets the right tone.  Carrie and the gals definitely liked their Jimmy Choos and Manolo Blahniks so what better way to have a themed party than by honoring the love of sky-high stilettos.

Or why not go with a sleek invitation of a NYC skyline? Fewer things represent the SATC series than Manhattan so show the city right in the invite. We love this NYC Skyline Invite. 

What about displaying the bride's (and Carrie's love of martinis) in this girlie invite?  Having a frilly invitation like this is probably the easiest way to let the guests know this won't be a formal tea party.

Some ideas to remember to put into the invites:

• Give each guest a character to bring a gift as.  For example:

• Carrie gifts could be luxurious and frivolous
• Samantha gifts could be racy and sexy
• Miranda gifts could be practical but fun.
• Charlotte gifts could be pretty and proper.

• Tell all of the guests to come in their favorite cocktail attire.

• Ask guests to bring their favorite cocktail recipe to give to the bride, instead of a recipe.

Food

Go with hip cocktail party cuisine. We like a menu of:

Spring Rolls (or the one on the left Crab & Pork Spring Rolls)

Pancetta-Wrapped Dates Stuffed with Manchego Cheese and Mint

Stilton Cheese Puffs 

Grilled Shrimp with Papaya Mustard  

Asparagus, Fingerling Potato, and Goat Cheese Pizza 

Cheese, Herb, and Sun-Dried Tomato Phyllo Rolls

Of course cocktail party fare is not the only way to go- a tapas party is festive and fun. A dessert theme or chocolate party would be perfect too-all are perfect for mingling.

Drinks

-Make your own cosmo & martini bar. Let's face it-the girls loved their drinks on the show.

-Serve different drinks for each character. The mixologists at Skyy Vodka created new drinks for the characters for the Sex and the City movie.  Here's the recipes courtesy of Skyy.

The Carrie Drink

• 2 ounces Skyy vodka
• 1 ounce X-Rated Fusion Liqueur
• 2 ounces cranberry juice
• 3/4 ounce sparkling apple cider

Shake Skyy, X-Rated and cranberry with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. Top with cider and garnish with a thin apple slice.

The Samantha Drink

• 2 1/2 ounces Skyy vodka
• 1 1/2 ounces Cabo Wabo Anejo tequila
• 1 ounce simple syrup
• 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

Shake with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. Rim glass with mixture of salt and small amount of white pepper. No garnish.

The Miranda Drink

• 2 ounces Skyy vodka
• 3/4 ounce Campari
• 2 ounces pomegranate juice
• 1 ounce Triple Sec
• Squeeze of lemon

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

The Charlotte Drink

• 2 ounces Skyy vodka
• 2 ounces pink lemonade
• 1 ounces Triple Sec
• 1/2 ounce Midori Melon liqueur

Shake with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with an edible flower.

We also like the idea of serving mocktails (non-alcoholic drinks) at the shower, especially if the shower is during the day when many guests won't be used to strong alcoholic drinks.  Our faves: virgin bellini, ginger limeade, and tea punch.

Cake
The bridal shower cake is one of the highlights of the shower and with this theme you've got great choices. Check out the Sex and the City cupcakes with hot pink stilettos, cosmo glass, hot pink shopping bag and lipsticks as accessories. Of course, at Pink Cake Box you can also get cakes that match the bride's favorite Juicy Couture bag or her favorite heels.

Games

• Do traditional bridal shower games. Find our favorites here.

• Hand out Sex and the City quizzes like "Which Character are you?" Print out copies for each guest or read them out loud.  A great variation-let the groom answer the quiz for the bride ahead of time-compare his answers to the bride's.

Favors

• Stick with the drink theme-give each guest their own mini martini glass, mini cocktail shakers (shown on the left), or cocktail lip balms.

Tip: Make the favor go further-use the mini martini glasses as placecards or as their glasses for the entire event.

• Or stay with the handbag and stiletto theme with mini purse manicure sets, handbag sachets, or shoe-shaped bottle openers.

Real Showers: Sex and the City Bridal Shower

It's hard to believe that  Sex and the City has already been off the air for years because it remains our of our generation's favorite shows.  And of course it makes a great theme for bridal showers-fun and flirty.  This Sex and the City bridal shower looks like it was a ton of fun.

 

Set the tone-The invites asked everyone to dress as a character from Sex and the City to get the guests in the mood.  Then at the shower, stickers that said "I'm a Charlotte," "I'm a Samantha,"etc. so that the guests could pick and stick on the one that fitted them the most. For decorations, there were ZookHooks purse hangers scattered about, an official Sex and the City movie poster on the sliding door viewable from the outside tent and tables, bright flower table cloths, pink roses and pink, silver and black balloons anchored by sexy pumps and stilettos.

The Food-What else would you expect from a SATC party then cocktails and cupcakes? For drinks they had a fountain bubbling out pink lemonade and vodka, which looked like Cosmopolitan’s when poured into a martini glass. (They avoided actual Cosmo's since the shower was during the day.) Wine and liquor bottles were also out and  had flower designed Wine-O cards around their necks for added decoration.  For dessert, Magnolia cupcakes and ones from Sweet were featured.

The Favors-This bridal shower featured a ton of favors-what a way to make the guests feel special. The first favor-Cosmopolitan jelly beans in a cool tin from Beau-coup Wedding Favors.  Yum-jelly beans that taste like Carrie's favorite drink! Next up was the ZookHooks quality purse hangers that were used as table decorations.  The next favor was lip balms from Pin Up Balm which feature vintage designs with a glamorous retro pinup girl on it.  Then, the guests were lucky enough to get a mini martini gel candle and a chic leather stiletto key chain.Love how the favors incorporated the SATC's girls favorite things-alcohol, makeup, and shoes!

Thank-you Gifts-The bride used her shower to give her bridesmaids a special thank-you! The gift-personalized bow pads from Good Thoughts Paper Co with their names on it and a Thank You written by the bride.  What a nice gesture from the bride.
